The Great Trade Debate
If you missed the Tuesday edition of Fantasy Football Tonight, you missed a lively conversation about the art of fantasy football trading. We go into the ethics of trades, specifically when is it OK to take advantage of a weaker player and what kind of rules should be in place to make sure this doesn't happen.
The debate got the chat room hopping and the phone lines buzzing all night as we took call after call offering us opinions on what types of trades are appropriate and when it is alright to veto a trade. My stance on not liking trades got a boastful response from the chat room most of whom totally disagreed with my take of wanting to do away with trades altogether.
We had Ted Schuster, co-host of The Sunday Morning Edition of Fantasy Football Tonight on to give us some of his strategies of making trades and what to look for. Ted went into detail about trading away players who are coming off of big weeks especially those who will go back to playing a smaller role after their breakout performance.
Ryan Hallam admitted that he makes trades to gain an advantage in bye weeks. Trading a key player from your team who has yet to have a bye for a player whose bye week has already passed instantly gives you and extra week of fantasy value.
It was some great conversation tonight and one that I am sure we'll continue talking about on future editions of Fantasy Football Tonight. I am interested to know how you guys feel about these topics we discussed on the show tonight? It was surprising to me how many fantasy players are playing for keeps and would not hesitate in ripping off a fellow owner if they felt they could. Give the show a listen and let me know what you think. Email me at thefantasyscout@gmail.com or post your comments below this blog entry.
