Quick Hits 9/15

Just a couple random things before I call it a night. If you want all of latest news, notes and updates in long form listen a replay of Fantasy Football Tonight -- The Tuesday Show where Ryan Hallam and myself. Subscribe to the feed or download us on iTunes and hear our shows 5 days a week.

  • The Giants claimed RB Gartrell Johnson off of waivers from San Diego today. The Giants are getting themselves a pretty decent player to pad their depth while the Chargers really screwed up with this move. They had wanted to sneak Johnson onto their practice squad, but a good young RB is hard for teams to pass up especially at this early point in the season.
  • Speaking of San Diego, LaDanian Tomlinson sprained his ankle in last night's win over the Raiders and is very questionable to play against the Ravens this week. If he can't go, Darren Sproles and Michael Bennett will fill in LT's shoes.
  • The Eagles placed RT Shawn Andrews on injured reserve, ending his season before it began. Andrews has been suffering from back issues all summer long. However, Andrews has some major personal demons that he needs to exercise before he can come back to playing football and being depended on again.
  • The Eagles also released WR Hank Baskett, better known as the guy who stole Kendra away from that old walking STD Hugh Hefner.
  • The Eagles also went ahead and declined an option in Brian Westbrook's contract that would have kept Westbrook in Philly through 2013. This was an obvious decision but the timing of it all is alarming. We all know that Westbrook has a degenerative knee and that he can only stand so much of a pounding these days. I would almost expect LeSean McCoy to be a primary RB in Philadelphia next season.
  • Patriots LB Jerod Mayo has been diagnosed with a sprained MCL in his right knee and could miss more than half the season. It is a grade III sprain and thus it will take quite awhile for him to get back onto the field.
