Fantasy Football Tonight 9/1

INJURED

Matt Schaub had precautionary X-rays on his injured ankle today but they turned out negative. It turns out that Schaub's ankle is fine and he is already out of the protective boot that he wore after the game yesterday. He will be ready to go in week 1.

The mystery of Kyle Orton's finger laceration has been solved. Orton actually suffered a dislocated his finger as the bone punctured through his skin at the knuckle. The Broncos training staff had to pop the finger back into place right on the field and thus their reasoning for Orton's laceration story. It is very likely that Orton is not going to be ready to go by the start of the regular season. If Orton cannot go, it will be rookie Tom Brandstater starting for the Broncos in week 1.

Jonathen Stewart went through a battery of tests last week to determine the exact severity of his achilles tendon injury. It is not clear if Stewart's pain is coming from the achilles, ankle or heel. Stewart was back at Panthers camp on Tuesday which was a good sign. DeAngelo Williams is the clear #1 RB with Stewart and rookie Mike Goodson vying for the backup job to start the season.

NOW STARTING

Troy Williamson has officially won the starting job opposite Torry Holt. Williamson has been outstanding this summer. He still has the size and speed that made him the 7th overall pick in 2005 but has finally put in the work necessary to deserve a starting role. He is a decent #3 WR in fantasy leagues this year.

The Dolphins are going with rookie Brian Hartline as their #2 WR to start the season. This move will allow both Ted Ginn and Davone Bess to switch out time as the slot receiver where they are more useful and better suited.

OTHER MOVES

Chiefs placed WR Devard Dariling on injured reserve, ending his season.

The Chiefs also put RB Kolby Smith on the PUP list, meaning that he will not be eligible to play in at least the first 7 regular season games.

Busy day in Kansas City as the Chiefs also released WR Amani Toomer from his 1 year contract he signed just a few weeks ago. It looks like the Chiefs are going to be after some WR help as teams begin making their final cuts in the next couple of weeks. They have left themselves incredibly thin at the position as of now.

The Lions claimed QB Kevin O'Connell off of waivers from New England. O'Connell will be brought in as a project and has no fantasy value whatsoever at this point.

The 49ers released veteran QB Damon Huard. Dan Marino once called Huard the smartest player he ever played with. Now Huard will be calling Marino..for a job.
