Fantasy Football Tonight 7/5

THE 'AIR' UP THERE?
The word on the death of Steve McNair is getting out. I have spoken with people a lot closer to the situation than I am and have come to the following conclusions. McNair was involved with the other victim, a 20 year old waitress at a downtown Nashville restaurant. The relationship was obviously romantic in nature and has come as a surprise only to McNair's wife and family. Friends, family and neighbors of the deceased woman claim to have known about her relationship with McNair for awhile now. As McNair's friends and ex-teammates rush to the media to sing his praises it seems that he is only one of the victims here. Not only is a young woman also dead, but a wife and four children are left sorting out the kind of details unimaginable to you or I. While we all grieve and sing praise for the deceased, let's not overlook the real victims in this case and that is Mechelle McNair and her family.

THE NEW LOOK BRONCOS
Denver head coach Josh McDaniels anticipates first round draft pick Knowshon Moreno being a three down RB in his rookie campaign. Moreno's ability to catch the ball out of the backfield sure helps his status in McDaniels pass heavy system but it will come down to his ability to read and react to the defense and block a blitzing linebacker that will decide how many snaps Moreno will take in '09. Any RB who has an opportunity to play on all three downs and not be a part of a committee deserves strong consideration on draft day.
Meanwhile WR Eddie Royal is starting to be recognized as the next Wes Welker possibly in this new Denver Broncos system. Slow your roll on this one though as Welker and Royal are two totally different WR's. Welker is slower, smaller and extremely sure handed while Royal is a speedster who has a nice blend of strength and size but has been known to drop some easy passes now and then. Royal is a skilled receiver and however McDaniels decides to use him he will warrant fantasy attention. Just don't expect him to turn into a 100+ reception guy this year especially if he isn't lining up opposite Brandon Marshall.

DOES ANYONE CARE?
Why am I hearing all about Ernest Wilford and his possible move to tight end this summer? The Dolphins want nothing less than to cut ties with this free agent disaster as soon as economically feasible so please stop with all of the updates concerning how his switch is going. Wilford is a big target WR who can be a decent red-zone threat in the right system but he doesn't practice well or have anything resembling a work ethic. Stop giving me updates about Ernest Wilford and start telling me more about how you are going to use Pat White this season, OK?
