Fantasy Football Tonight 7/28

SAY WHAT?

OK, so I was the one screaming from the rooftops that Favre to signing in Minnesota was a done deal and now it has been confirmed that he is indeed staying retired. What gives? Let me break it down like this. We are all smart enough to know that Favre and the Vikings had an agreement in place, which I have been told included a 1 year contract that was heavy on team related incentives, right? The answer is yes. So then, what happened to cause Favre to second guess a return to the NFL?

The answer to that question is very simple. His body just wasn't performing nor recovering as it has all these many years. I spoke with multiple people who have been present at his Oak Grove High School work outs who were not completely sold on his arm strength. The reports I got were that he came out of the gate firing missiles and wowing the large gathering who came out to witness him on his comeback journey. But as the practices wore on there was a noticeable drop in his velocity and even a few terribly under thrown deep balls none of which I notice were featured on the ESPN "what is Brett doing today" updates. His arm just isn't ready to take on all the torture that is an NFL training camp and regular season. Thus is why we are hearing he hasn't "officially" ruled out a return at a later point this season. You see, the guy wants to play football. He just knows that at this point his body isn't as convinced. In addition to the shoulder surgery he underwent in June, Favre's knee and both ankles have also reportedly been bothering him. The ole' gray mare just ain't what he used to be.

You may remember that a few weeks back in this very blog, I predicted that Favre would indeed return to the Vikings and that he would eventually be injured and bailed out by Sage Rosenfels. Well, the reasons for my prediction I must now admit were indeed from the reports that I had heard on Favre's workouts in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. I just thought that there was no way that he would get it through his ever graying head that his body was not going to support another return. I was wrong.
