The True Guru Souting Report: Buyer Beware on Derek Anderson

With Brady Quinn out the rest of the year with a broken finger, Derek Anderson will get one more chance to prove his worth to other teams for the 2009 season. From a fantasy perspective, owners who have him now or decide to pick him up have a tough schedule to face with Anderson with a few games that could be worthy of a start.

Starting next week against the Indianapolis Colts. That is a great matchup for Anderson and if his receivers are healthy he could put up some good fantasy points in front of the home crowd. After that, for the first two weeks of most leagues playoffs, he faces stiff competition on the road from Tennessee and Philadelphia. Two games we would not recommend starting him under any circumstance.

Ten for the Superbowl matchup in many leagues is a good one for Anderson. Cincinnati at home. It will probably be snowing, but if the weather is good, Anderson should be good. Could that be a tie when you'd use him. In your league playoffs or Superbowl. Tough call for any manager, but you will have three weeks of games to review to help make your decision, so we can cross that bridge then. The week 17 matchup is against Pittsburgh IN Pittsburgh, so no start there.

We like some of the prospects fr Anderson, but beware who you cut just to pick him up. He hasn't been very good this year and we don't have that much confidence that he will all of a sudden break out of the year long funk he has been in. After getting benched, there is motivation for him and you would have to hope that is enough.

If you are desperate for a QB for week 13, then start Anderson and cross your fingers. He is likely to be without Winslow and that is not good for the quarterback.
