The Guru Gridiron Report: Week 9 Bench/Start Defenses

Week 9 brings another round of challenging BYE week players including Drew Brees, Philips Rivers, LT, and Frank Gore to name a few. The San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, San Diego Chargers are all on BYE this week, so find your waiver players early because there will be allot of people hunting. If you have a deep bench, get ready to use it. Here are our week 9 picks.

DEFENSES AND YOU MUST START
We not liking the matchup for the Buffalo Bills defense, but you have to start them this week at home against the Jets. Jacksonville looked bad last week, but we think they can make it up against Cincinnati this week. Cleveland always plays well at home and they have Baltimore in their sites. Start them. Tampa Bay is a must start this week, even on the road. We think Green Bay will beat Tennessee and it starts with their defense.

Others: Chicago, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Houston

Other DEFENSES To Consider Starting With Some Risk
The New York Giants defense will get their fair share of sacks and INTs against the Cowboys this week. We wouldn't recommend starting Arizona's defense, but they can put up some good numbers if they play good football vs the Rams. Its without a doubt a risky start, but has some big payoff. If Bob Sanders is back, you have to start Indianapolis at home. You have too. Finally, the NY Jets defense needs to put pressure on Edwards and if they can, he will make mistakes. They have 24 sacks through 7 games.
Others: Dallas, Baltimore, Tennessee, Miami, Oakland, Washington, Minnesota, Dallas, New England

Please Bench These DEFENSES

Cincinnati, Detroit , St. Louis, Kansas City, Seattle, Denver

Sleeper Defenses

Detroit's defense has looked sharp against good teams this season when not expected. They are a deep sleeper, but expect a possible TD return and some sacks for the Lions. We really like Atlanta's defense to do some damage in Oakland against the Raiders. They are our sleeper trench defense. Another long shot is the Kansas City defense. They play well at home and matchup well against Tampa Bay.
