The Guru Gridiron Report: Week 7 Bench/Start Quarterbacks
QUARTERBACKS YOU MUST START
Drew Brees is a lock this week. He is on the road at Carolina. The Saints simply overpower and out match the Panthers defense. Another road start goes to Matt Schaub against Detroit. They looked good against Minnesota, but that was Minnesota. Even with a sore shoulder, Ben Roethlisberger is a must start in Cincinnati. He won't produce massive numbers, but 2 TDs and 285 yards should be a lock. Finally Brett Farve looks to have a big game. Oakland can't stop the run and that will open the vertical game. 3 TDs is not out of the question for Farve.
Others: Jason Campbell, Eli Manning, Jay Cutler, Peyton Manning
Other Quarterbacks To Consider Starting With Some Risk
Philip Rivers should have a solid game, but he's on the road against a rested Buffalo defense. You have to start him, but cross your fingers. Another risky, but good start is Derek Anderson. Fresh off of pounding the NY Giants defense, he will go on the road to Washington. If his O-line gives him the time he can put up a couple of TDs in a tough loss. Garbage points should also be there. Jeff Garcia is at home and playing the helpless Seahawks. The only risk is how much he will throw, but not a bad start. This is a week that Jake Delhomme can put up big numbers, but he is a risk after last week's performance. We say start him. He's at home and he'll be in a shootout with Brees. Even better is that we think he'll get plenty of garbage points. Finally, Aaron Rodgers. No Bob Sanders and the ball will fly with the run game opening up. one note on Trent Edwards. We like him this week, but consider his concussion 2 weeks ago if you decide to start him.
Others: , J.T. O'Sullivan, Kerry Collins, Kyle Orton (No Joke)
Please Bench These Quarterbacks
There are several Quarterbacks to bench starting with Marc Bulger. Dallas will come after him all day and dominate his offensive line. Gus Frerotte is not worth starting in Chicago and leave Seneca Wallace in free agency this week. Dan Orlovsky will make another start for the Lions. This is the guy who ran out of bounds away from a defender.
Others: Jon Kitna, Joe Flacco, Chad Pennington, JaMarcus Russell
Sleeper Quarterbacks
We have two sleepers for you. The first is an obvious one in Brad Johnson. He now has Roy Williams and should have no problem filling in for Romo against the pitiful Rams and I don't care that they handled Washington last week at home. Look for 1-2 TDs and 250 yards. We really like Matt Cassel against Denver on Monday night. He is at home and will be passing all day. If New England can't keep up consider the garbage points he will get.
Good luck. Next are our Runningbacks!
