Guru Gridiron Report: Week 5 Expert League Matchups Preview
We finally got our weekly match ups ready to go. Every week, Todd "The True Guru" Farino (me) will bring you his take on all 7 match ups taking place that week and give a point spread based on the number of points he feels each team can produce. Lets get to it.
Johnny Archive (2-2) vs. Big Game Fantasy Sports.com (1-3) +5
BGFS is coming off a big first win of the season and looked to build on that momentum with Johnny Archive coming to town. This looks to be a very competitive match up and can go either way. If Johnny's team plays to its potential it should be able to hold off Patrick and his powerful attack armed with Peyton Manning, Lee Evans, and Santonio Holmes. The key match ups in this game are the WRs vs. WRs. This is a must win for BGFS if he looks to pull the upset against the spread. Another volitile key matchup is McNabb vs. Manning. If McNabb stays tight with Manning Johnny gets what he needs. If he beats Manning its all but over.
MATCHUP OF THE WEEK
Xtreme Fantasy Football (4-0) vs. Fantasy Football Starters (3-1) +15
Matchup of the week. Two of the best overall teams in the league clash for best record. Both lead their respective divisions and have had superb season so far. This is going to be a hard one for FFS to pull out against the Xtreme team. He will put up a great fight with Frank Gore, Steve Smith, and the Eagles defense, but in the end Bowser just has too much firepower. The key matchups for this one are Larry Fitzgerald and Greg Jenning vs. Steve Smith and Hines Ward. We expect Mike to take this one by several points, but with Rodgers hurting FFS could get an upset here and close the gap with XFF. The other key matchup is the trench battles of TE, defense, and kicker. Both teams have good defenses, but Xtreme Fantasy Football has the advantage on kicker and tight end with Jason Witten. If FFS can pull a victory in the trenches he can definitely smell an upset.
Owners Box Sports (4-0) vs Fantasy Football Search (2-2) -12
Owners Box Sports is undefeated while FFS suffered an humiliating loss last week to a team starting 4 Raider players! Both teams have some serious players on BYE or injured, but overall the teams are intact for this game. OBS has had some magic n remaining undefeated in a tough league, but his luck will end this week. Fantasy Football Search has some great matchups and over powers OBS in several positions including WRs and RBs. The key mtchups start with Brees vs. Romo. Romo is in line for a monster game and Brees is playing a defense that is somewhat weak against the pass, but Brees is still without some critical targets. Romo has to keep this matchup close and winning it put a dagger in Owner Box Sports heart. Another key matchup is Warrick Dunn vs. Ike Hillard. Both play on the same team, but if the game becomes a semi-shootout as we expect Ike Hillard will see plenty of action and Warrick won't. If Warrick comes up big in this game, OBS will go to 5-0.
Fighting Chance Fantasy (1-3) Vs. Scout Fantasy Football (2-2) +16
Another great matchup for two teams looking to get on a winning track. This game looks real good for Fighting Chance Fantasy with some great match ups for both his runningbacks Marion Barber and Ryan Grant. He also has Brandon Marshall and the Panthers defense at home. SFF does have a few tricks up his sleeve like Brandon Jacobs, the beat up Bears DEF/ST, and a great matchup for Donald Driver. However , it won't be enough. The key matchup here is Hasselbeck Vs. Kitna. This is a must win for Scout Fantasy Football and he has to win my allot. This is a big game for Fighting Chance Fantasy.
Junkyard Jake (2-2) vs. Mock Draft Central (2-2) +8
Another deuces wild matchup and is a doozy! On paper this game looks like it goes to MDC, but this week belongs to Junkyard and the upset. Junkyard Jake will attack with the triple threat of Marshawn Lynch, Matt Forte, and Michael Turner. All of them have great matchups for week 5 and should be able to put up serious points. Two key matchups, Matt Ryan vs. Jason Campbell and Eddie Royal vs. Robert Meachem. We expect Campbell to have a rough week, but if he manages to put up allot of points against Philadelphia and he smokes Ryan, this game could turn the other way. The battle of rookie WRs is pretty even, but JJ needs Royal to pull this one out to secure his win. Either way it's a definite close game.
Pro Fantasy Games (1-3) vs. NFL Fantasy Playbook (1-3) +25
This matchup on paper is a blowout, but after what NFL Fantasy Playbook did to my team last week, anything is possible. The running attack of Pro Fantasy Games will be too much for NFLFP along with the trench points. The key matchups here would be Delhomme vs. Cassel. We think Delhomme has the edge here, but Cassel can blowup and if he does lookout for another upset special. Another matchup is the defenses, Pittsburgh vs. Bills. Again, on paper this is the advantage of Pittsburgh, but stranger things have happened and if NFLFP can win this matchup he can start thinking, UPSET.
Fantasy Sports Zone (1-3) vs. Nooffseason.com (2-2) +6
This will be a fun game to watch. Fantasy Sports Zone has a clear advantage, but there are too many variables that can flip in favor of No Off Season. The first key matchup is the lovable duo of Philip Rivers vs. Jay Cutler. Cutler should get the better end of this matchup and needs too. If he blows out Rivers and upset can happen. If Rivers pulls the upset, FSZ has a secure win. The other key matchup is Titans DEF vs. Ravens DEF. These teams are playing each other and becaue the Ravens are at home its nearly even. This is a matchup NOS needs to win and win somewhat big. It can turn this game upside down with a big win. Again, this match up should remain close and no winner declared until very late.
