The Guru Gridiron Report: Week 5 Bench/Start Defenses

Unlike last week there are only four teams on the BYE this week and they are relatively ineffective teams for fantasy football. Cleveland Browns, St. Louis Rams, Oakland Raiders, and New York Jets are on BYE in week 5. There should be plenty of points to pass around this week. Lots of managers loss last week probably because of the sheer volume of players on the BYE combined with some star players just not performing. Week 5 looks allot better.

DEFENSES AND YOU MUST START
Lets start with the Tennessee Vs Baltimore match up. Start both, this will be a low scoring game. Bet on Green Bay's defense to come out playing hard on Sunday, start them. San Diego has a very favorable match up against Miami, but they will give up some points. We like Philadelphia' s defense against Washington. We think they match up well and Philly is at home. Finally, Jacksonville against a beat up Pittsburgh Offense. You have to start them. Others: Chicago, Dallas, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, San Francisco

Other DEFENSES To Consider Starting With Some Risk
There are some risky defenses. We like the Cardinals at home this week to put up some numbers. The Carolina defense should be able to handle Atlanta fairly well, and score some solid defensive points. Finally, we do like Seattle, but it is a very risky start. New York is without Burress and Seattle can exploit that by stopping the run with single coverage. Consider them if you are desperate.
Others: Detroit, New England, NY Giants

Please Bench These DEFENSES

Cincinnati, Atlanta, Minnesota, Indianapolis, Washington

Sleeper Wide Defenses

We have two sleeper defenses for you to consider. Houston is playing its first home game against the struggling Colts. We think that Houston defense will play a solid game, putting pressure on Manning and possibly scoring a TD. They will give up points, but should score plenty. New Orleans is at home against the also struggling Minnesota Vikings. We think this is a great match up for the New Orleans defense and they can also score on defense and special teams.
