Week 5 GURU Picks & Sleepers In Review
Week 5 has been here and is gone. It was a great week for us. Here are the numbers on our calls:
QB's 13/18 Correct ( 72%)
RB's 9/16 Correct (56%)
WR's 12/19 Correct ( 63%)
TE's 6/10 Correct (60%)
DEF's 14/15 Correct (94%)
OVERALL: 54/78 Correct (70%)
"Start at your own risk "calls or players that did not play due to injuries were not counted.
We did an outstanding job call Quarterbacks and Defenses, while doing a solid job of calling WR's and TE's. Our we spot this week was runningbacks, who probably screwed up allot of expert picks this week. Many RB's did not score or lost scores to backups. Below are the picks we made with comments.
Here is the review of our picks and how they stacked up:
QUARTERBACKS
1st Tier Quarterbacks WE RECOMMENDED AS MUST Start:
Peyton Manning - Peyton go 253 and 2 TDs, so just about what we expected.
Vince Young - His team won, but 3 INTs and no TD's stunk it up.
Jon Kitna - Did anyone see this performance coming? barley 100 yards and NO TDs.
Tom Brady - A magician as always.
Drew Brees - This team isn't dead yet, but its got 1 nail in the coffin. 250 yards and no TDs doesn't cut it!
Phillip Rivers - Like I said on the radio show Sunday, I'm sold on Phillip Rivers. 270 and 3 TDs. Excellent start.
Tony Romo - Wow, the 5 INTS and Fumble hurt, and hurt bad. On the other hand, 29-50, 309, and 2 TDs is like a good pain killer. Depending on the type of scoring system you were this was good. Completions league, good.
2nd Tier Quarterbacks WE RECOMMENDED You have to Start:
Jeff Garcia - 150 yards and 2 TD's is very acceptable.
Brett Farve - 322 yards and a TD. Even with 2 INTs, not bad.
Eli Manning - Great game against the Jets. 186 yards and 2 TDs. we will take it.
Matt Schaub - The yards were there at 300, but no TDs made it for not much of a day.
Ben Roethlisberger - 200 yards and a TD is a solid, but not exciting performance. Assuming you didn't have better, you'll take it.
3rd Tier Quarterbacks WE RECOMMENDED START AT YOUR OWN RISK:
Matt Leinart - Big risk and no reward. Left the game with a broken collarbone.
Derek Anderson - If you started him you had to be happy with 287 and TDs, but not the 3 INTs.
Trent Green - Concussion after 5 pass attempts. Not good.
Chad Pennington - 230 and a TD look sok, but he 3 INTS make it bad, very bad.
David Carr - Got hurt, and came back. Didn't help much, bad start.
4th Tier Quaterbacks WE RECOMMENDED MUST BENCH:
Matt Hassleback - Did absolutely nothing.
Steve Mcnair - 214 yards and nothing.
Jay Cutler - 230 yards and no TDs with an INT
Trent Dilfer - Did better than McNair, but overall very bad
Trent Edwards - 176 yards and an INT, great thing you benched him. You did bench him, right?
Brian Griese - Honestly had a good game, 214 and 2 TDs.
RUNNINGBACKS
1st Tier Runningbacks WE RECOMMENDED MUST Start:
Willie Parker - 100+ yards, but no TDs. Najah Davenport took 2 of them and we don't understand why.
Clinton Portis - Another game of let the obscure runningback get the TDs. Not a worthy game.
Ronnie Brown - Excellent game with 150+ total yards and a TD.
LaDainian Tomlinson - Nearly 150 total yards and 3 receptions, but another game with no TDs. Still a must start every week.
Marion Barber - Bad week. 28 yards rushing. 6 receptions for 45 does help, but still a bad week.
Reggie Bush - I've lost all confidence in this team. Over 100 total boring yards.
2nd Tier Runningbacks WE RECOMMENDED You have to Start:
Maurice Jones-Drew - Found pay dirt and 82 yards! We started him.
Sammy Morris - 112 total yards, plus 2 receptions. Not bad.
Willis MaGahee - Great start. No TDs, but 136 total yards and 7 receptions!
Tennessee Runningbacks - 66 Total yards and a TD. If you were desperate you are happy.
Travis Henry - 65 yards and a whole lot of nothing.
Marshan Lynch - 98 total yards and 2 catches isn't going to cut it.
Thomas Jones - 36 yards. This guy has one leg out the door.
3rd Tier Runningbacks WE RECOMMENDED START AT YOUR OWN RISK:
Larry Johnson - 9 Carries, 12 yards. Will the real Larry Johnson show himself!
Frank Gore - Another tough defense shut him down. We benched him in all three leagues (The only player I have in all three of my leagues.)
Joseph Addai - DIDN'T PLAY
Jerious Norwood - Only 6 carries. I'm very happy I cut him last week.
Shaun Alexander - 25 yards. Hopefully you figured out the risk was not worth it.
4th Tier Runningbacks WE RECOMMENDED MUST BENCH:
Jamal Lewis - Left the early because of injury and Tom Brady.
Cedric Benson - Whether his name is Chris or Cedric, he's not a good running back now or in the immediate future.
Green Bay Runningbacks - Bad call for us. Wynn had 78 yards and a TD. Not bad.
1st Tier Wide Receivers WE RECOMMENDED MUST Start:
Larry Fitzgerald - 9 receptions, 136 yards, and a TD. Awesome game.
Torry Holt - 5 receptions, 89 yards and a TD. Great game.
Roy Williams - Every Detroit player was a miserable let down.
Plaxico Burress - Scored as we expected and tacked on 124 yards.
Reggie Wayne - 62 yards and an end zone dance. Easy call.
Terrell Owens - Wow, 2 receptions for 25 yards. What is he waiting for. The Ref's stold at least one 30-40 yard reception from him, not that it would help much.
2nd Tier Wide Receivers WE RECOMMENDED You have to Start:
Shaun McDonald - Every Detroit player was a miserable let down.
Calvin Johnson - Every Detroit player was a miserable let down.
Wes Welker - He's becoming a worthless WR.
Patrick Crayton - 6 receptions, 73 yards and a TD. Great call and we started him in 2 leagues!
Steve Smtih - 47 yards and a TD is bad for Steve Smtih, but considering its Carr now at the helm, this is a good game.
Marques Colston - 31 yards and 4 catches is junk.
Laveranues Coles - 8 receptions, 89 yards is a solid game.
Chris Chambers - Losing Trent Green could really hurt this guy. Only 19 yards. Ouch!
3rd Tier Wide Receivers WE RECOMMENDED START AT YOUR OWN RISK:
Dwayne Bowe - 4 receptions for 70 yards isn't anything to write home about, but its points.
Derrick Mason - 11 receptions and 85 yards, but like normal, no TD.
Amani Toomer - BIG Goose egg since Burress played.
Braylon Edwards - 110 yards, but no TD. Solid game.
Joey Galloway - BAD risk. Only 50 yards.
Lee Evans - VERY BAD Risk. Only 12 yards and 1 catch.

Joe Horn - 2 receptions for 3 yards. We aren't kidding 3 yards!
Deion Branch - 14 yards and he's hurt. Good call.
Benard Berrian - 10 total yards. He is not connecting with Griese.

SLEEPERS
Overall our sleepers were good, but certainly not great. We got 6 out of 11 correct for a 55% success rate. Here are the reviews:
Brian Leonard - Great call on this sleeper. 102 rushing yards and 33 receiving yards. Great game for a fill in.
Ladell Betts - Mike Sellers stold the show in this game. Betts stunk it up with 30 total yards.
Jason Campbell - 248 yards and 2 TDs. This was a great call, but also a gimmie against Detroit.
Randy McMicheals - Got his first TD of the season. Success!
Brandon Jacobs/ Derrick Ward - If you started either RB, you should be happy. Jacobs lead the way with 100 yards and a TD, and Ward followed with 56 yards and a TD. Ward also hauled in 3 catches. Great call.
Kevin Jones - Bad day for all Detroit Lions. They failed us and we failed you. 65 Total yards for Kevin.
Antwan Randle El - 7 receptions for 100 yards, not bad.
Houston Texans Defense - 1 sack, and 1 INT. Nothing else to talk about. Not a stellar game in the least bit.
Devry Henderson - We said look for 4 catches, 105 yards, and a TD. Well he got 4 receptions, 101 yards and no TD. He did score in the game on a 56 pass from Brees, but it was overturned cause he stepped out of bounds at the 2 yard-line. If he had been able to keep his balance it would have been a perfect call. If's don't score points!
Seattle Seahawks Defense - 3 sacks and 21 points, nothing to write home about.
Jerricho Cotchery - Big let down here. We expected more than 4 catches and 31 yards.
